Bioinspired design of flexible armor based on chiton scales

Ling Li, assistant professor of mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, developed an armor based on the scales of mollusks. These scales developed to provide both flexibility and protection. Dr. Li and his team fabricated a synthetic flexible scaled armor analog using parametric computational modeling and multi-material 3D printing.
