Owls are widely known for silent flight, which they are able to achieve due to their unique wing morphologies. Their wings are normally characterized by leading-edge serrations, trailing-edge fringes, and velvet-like surfaces. With these morphological features, owls are able to create aerodynamic force production and sound suppression or noise reduction. Owl-inspired serrations may be a useful device for reducing the noise created by wind turbines, aircrafts, multi-rotor drones, as well as other fluid machinery.
