The characteristics of shark skin can be applied to many things for human use because of its smoothness and versatility. Boat companies are trying to make the bottom of their boats mimic the smooth qualities of sharkskin to reduce friction from drag and auto-cleaning parasite characteristic. This quality seems as if the structure of the skin is smooth, but the structure of sharkskin is actually consists of overlapping scales which allows water to move run over them more efficiently. This quality can be applied to many other things, like airplanes and more.
