Paper, Reconfiguring Plant Metabolism for Biodegradable Plastic Production

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biodegradable biopolymers produced in plants which can be used to address issues with plastic waste. However, scientists have constantly faced the problem of growth defects in plants which harmfully affects the accumulation of PHAs. However, this article explains how genetic modification can be used to reconfigure plant metabolism so that PHAs can be produced at a sufficient rate.
