Tough, strong and heat-endure: Bioinspired material to oust plastics
A research team from the University of Science and Technology of China has invented a new bioinspired material that might just be able to replace petroleum based plastics. They were inspired by the hierarchically ordered structure of natural nacre and managed to mimic the structure with TiO2 mica and cellulose nanofiber. The result is a strong, tough, and environmentally friendly material that is twice as strong as most engineering plastics and has the ability to withstand a large array of temperatures.
