BIRTH Lab – Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, USA
Arizona State University is known for a lot of things, but this might not be one of them. Tempe, Arizona is home to the Sun Devils’ BIRTH (Bio-Inspired Robotics Technology and Healthcare) Lab, a space dedicated to the furthering of scientific research by drawing inspiration from nature. The BIRTH Lab specializes in animal-inspired biomechanics and the physics of interfacial forces, applying them in conjunction with their studies of robotics to help design better mechanisms for interacting with complex environments. Some of the lab’s ongoing projects include bio-inspired adaptive attachment mechanisms, magnetic micro-robots for medical applications, and “space robots.”
