Manmade oyster reefs
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our times, one of the main consequences being rising sea levels. Beyond putting human civilization at risk, rising sea levels have heavily contributed to the near extinction of oyster-reefs. In fact, oyster-reef abundance has already declined ∼85% globally over the past 100 years alone. Oyster reef communities serve many under-water ecosystem purposes such as improved shoreline protection, water quality, and marine wildlife.
This article describes one of the first man made oyster reef that can help revitalize our quality of marine wildlife through its cutting-edge technologies that help facilitate healthy reef accretion rates that keep up with our rising sea level, as well as preserve and improve the quality of our ocean waters.
