Kerbel and Kulyk were interested in designing an accessible, convenient, and sustainable energy efficiency technology to reduce pollution offsets and costs.
They were inspired by the complex communication system in beehives called emergence. Kerbel and Kulyk mimicked this bee communication by developing an algorithm that allows all parts of a building to detect each other and eliminate unnecessary power consumption.

They targeted medium-sized buildings (50,000-500,000 sq. ft) to implement their REGEN technology because these buildings’ energy systems were typically inefficient, expensive, and complex. Although REGEN Energy does not change the power source, it helps clients to regulate and reduce their energy consumption.
