Organization, CBID at Georgia Tech, Georgia(U.S.A)
Georgia Tech’s Center for Biologically Inspired Design consists of faculty that facilitate research, education, and training that further promotes biologically inspired design. The program offers K12 curricular materials that incorporate biological principles. This is created in order to foster imagination and curiosity about the world. On the other hand, the undergraduate study has disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses that emphasize biology-engineering connections. The program also offers a certificate program in biologically inspired design. There are many research projects that students can participate in from different fields. CBID offers training for individuals who wish to use biologically designed inspired design to solve challenges or incorporate them in their company, etc. Research and academia The research center at Georgia Tech has a wide array of research, the most prominent set being Biomechanics and Robotics, Biomaterials, Sensing Systems, Complex Organized Systems, and Biologically Inspired Design Methodology and Innovation. There are a large sum of events and programs that are held at Georgia Tech that explore the research being done. All the research publications are also posted online including the Georgia Tech website, for example the most recent research publication done was in 2017 and was about understanding the role of multiple analogies in design-by-analogy. Lastly, any faculty members part of labs or research can be found on the website, all neatly organized between the different types of research. It is clear that Biologically Inspired design methodology is crucial to research, as a whole category is left for that topic. Professional ecosystem CBID at Georgia Tech creates a professional ecosystem through integrative education and research training. These activities allow students to become more innovative through different networking opportunities with experts in the field. Three prime examples of such programs are training, labs, and resources.
