Exploration of the ocean environment has been a long dream of scientists as the vast extent of the ocean holds many things we have yet to discover. The recently developed variants of soft robots may be the key in exploring these secrets. The Squidbot looks and moves just like a squid; it relies on the very same motion of squids of inhaling and ejecting jets of water to glide through water. This allows the robot to move through water extremely efficiently and fast, all while not disturbing nature as they could possibly blend into schools of fish due to their resemblance to already existing ocean creatures. It will also be effective to move through the variety of spaces — tight, steep, delicate spaces — unlike the old models of robots made for ocean exploration. These soft robots can bring revolutionary insights to oceanography and biologists as they will allow updates of the state of the ocean environment, and eventually collect biological samples and clean up plastic pollution in the ocean floor.
