Hagfish produce a slime composed of fibrous threads coiled into skeins, which can be unraveled at fast speeds to defend against predators. This study explores the mechanics behind the unraveling of the skeins by modeling the reaction under various physiological and external conditions. Combined with previous knowledge about hagfish slime, this study contributes to the possibility of engineering similar biomaterials.
