The BioMimicry Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) at the University of Akron is dedicated to using interdisciplinary research projects to catalyze biomimicry-based innovation. This innovation center connects artists, designers, business people, engineers and scientists to draw inspiration from diverse organisms. Beyond research, BRIC offers training by developing undergraduate and graduate curricula through promoting awareness of biomimicry at public seminars. The goal of BRIC is to become a driver for sustainable economic development in Northeast Ohio and beyond. The program also has opportunities for grad fellowships in collaboration with Great Lakes Biomimicry which offer resources to advance biomimicry initiatives. The University of Akron also offers an undergraduate certificate in Biomimicry which is open to all majors designed to train students and give them experiences of theory, methods, and practice of seeking innovation from living systems to solve technical changes.
