This paper examines how fish adapt to changing oxygen (and salinity) levels in intertidal waters. This could be applied towards machinery by the coastline by understanding how the fish adapted to this changing environment, then using a similar design (but scaled up) to create adjustable semi-permeable materials that can prevent or minimize rust formation.
