The creation of the robot was inspired by the bodily structure of sea creatures, who are able to survive the crazy pressure of the deep sea with their soft bodies. This robot can survive even the deepest parts of the world’s seas, the Mariana Trench. The electrical components of the robot are covered in silicon which allow for the survival of the robot as well as removing the need for any pressure-resistant cases. Covering the electronic components in this certain structure was directly taken from the natural design of the Hadal snailfish, spacing the electrical components of the robot far apart instead of closely packed together like most robots. The soft bodies of sea creatures such as octopuses and other fishes are designs that are needed for deep sea adventures, which is why any robot that is planning to venture into the deep sea pretty much has to have some variation of this property to survive. The problems that the team is having with their design is that the robot is slow and can easily be moved away by the natural sea currents. However once these roadblocks have been solved the applications of this robot and the benefits it can have on deep sea exploration are endless.
