Fungi have proven to be very biologically useful for humans, as their variety allows for new discoveries to continuously be made about them, providing constant opportunities for a discovery that may lead to a very useful product. However, an issue has arisen in that scientists are now rediscovering the same biological traits in multiple different species, meaning that it is no longer a valid course of action to simply analyze any singular fungus and expect to find something new every time. As a result of this, researchers at the University of Queensland have developed a new process to analyze large groups of fungi simultaneously, allowing them to continue making important discoveries, but now without the risk of wasting their own time.
