The Meiji University researchers developed a device, Norimaki Synthesizer, that can imitate all kinds of flavory sensations as the subject put the device on their tongue. The manipulation of taster perception is achieved by electrolytes inserted into five gels that control the intensity of five basic flavors: sour, sweet, bitter, salt, and umami. The electrical charges applied to the tongue are carefully controlled to make sure no harm would be caused. Without putting any piece of food into your mouth, the Norimaki Synthesizer is enough to bring all the delicacies in the world to your tongue.
