Nakata et al. show that mosquitos detect surfaces using the flow fields caused by the movement of their own wings, and proposed to use this in the navigation of human-made drones. Small changes in air flows can be detected with sensors and used to navigate drones in tight spaces and cost a lot less than lidar or sonar detections typically used in autonomous autonomous vehicles.
